From Goodreads:
Enter the complete saga of the international #1 bestselling Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead.
Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with an unbreakable bond to the earth’s magic. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa’s best friend, makes her a Dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making her one of them. Rose and Lissa must navigate through this dangerous world, confront the temptation of forbidden romance, and never once let their guard down, lest the Strigoi make Lissa one of them forever.
Review…
The whole series is told by Rose Hathaway’s POV and yes, this make the books more interesting because Rose is such a funny, stubborn and bad-ass heroine! I honestly love how that girl thinks. If someone would ask me to pick a Fictional bestie, I would pick Rose in a heartbeat. I know that it’s not right but I can’t help but compare Rose from Bella. Maybe it’s the fact that before I started VA I just finished reading Book1 of Twilight.
Now Lissa on the other hand annoys me sometimes, she just seems so innocent and whiney at the first few books but I loved how she evolved on through the whole series. She became more independent and she finally got a few snarky traits just like Rose. Plus! I’m totally loving her relationship with Christian. Ooohhh Christian! Love love love him, there are times that I loved him more than Dimitri. But of course I’m still Dimitri’s girl all the way.
“If I let myself love you, I won’t throw myself in front of her. I’ll throw myself in front of you.” – Dimitri to Rose
Dimitri is just so likeable! Yes there are times that he lets us (and Rose) be confused about what he truly feels because he’s just so mysterious, but I think that’s why he become more appealing to Rose (and of course to me). Dimitri angered me, humored me, made me swoon, and got me all flaily *sigh* I also love how the Author managed Rose and Dimitri’s relationship. There’s no hurry.. but! the intensity, the sweetness is there.
Frostbite is a lot more intense than Vampire Academy. New characters are introduced and another plot is about to begin! Rose grew up a lot in this book. It was wonderful to see her maturity at the end. I could feel her hurt. I wanted to hug her. On the brighter side, Adrian was introduced to us on this book (heaven knows how I love that guy!!)
Shadow Kiss is the third book and wow! So far this is my favorite from the whole series. So much happened in this book, and it’s just really hard to even form into words how it made me feel. I guess because it took me on the entire spectrum of emotions. I went from being confused to being scared to being on top of the world to… being destroyed, essentially. In general, the plot of this book was fascinating. The novices playing guardians, the guardians playing Strigoi… loved every second of it.
Now Blood Promise, this is where I say ‘Rose.. You are the man! (I mean woman)’ Seriously, Rose is incredible! Her adventure is just so heartbreaking and painful that I’m so honored that I went along with her. Not gonna comment on Lissa (or any of the other characters) because everyone annoyed me immensely.
Spirit Bound is where Adrian and Rose got pretty hot and heavy. and also about other things! Lol The ending most certainly threw me for a loop. Had I been reading these as they were released I might’ve been frustrated, because this sort of felt cliff-hanging at the end, unlike the others for me, but I was able to jump straight into the next, so not biggie.
And now the conclusion, The Last Sacrifice. It was hard letting go… these characters are so special in so many ways. But Last Sacrifice was definitely a great ending to a wonderful series. I laughed. I swooned. I cried. I felt bad for Adrian, which I didn’t expect… caught me off guard how much he weaseled his way into my heart. This is the kind of “love triangle” that works… the kind where, you truly KNOW she belongs with one guy, but somehow, someway, the other guy manages to find that tiny void the first one doesn’t fill, and it’s a part of your heart that you realize was made for him. Does that make sense? PROBABLY NOT, BUT WHATEVER.
I did not gave 5 stars to every book in the series but I do believe that Richelle Mead is a writing Godess. I love that she made a new world of Vampires and that she didn’t made anyone sparkle (ooppsss) Anyway, I haven’t watched the movie.. and I don’t think I will. The casting was just.. UGH. And from the movie review of other bloggers, I don’t I’ll like it anyway. I’ll just stay away and keep my own version of Rose and Dimitri.
I don’t think I’ll be reading the Spin-off: Bloodlines because even though Adrian is one of the main characters, I’m just not very fond of the female lead, Sydney. Rose is enough for me.
Have you guys read this series? Thoughts? Anyone here watched the movie? …uhm, WHY? Kidding! I wanna hear it!!

I love this series! My thing with the love triangle was that usually most of the times for love triangles I always like one guy and don’t like the other love interest at all. But in this one. I did love Dimitri way more, b/c well, he’s Dimitri! But Adrian, I love his personality and I did feel bad for him b/c he really did love Rose and wanted her. With the spin off series I tried two books and didn’t like it. Still feels like side characters to me in that series and didn’t connect with it well. I feel that way with a lot of Richelle Mead’s series though except this one. This one I Heart to death! =)))

Gosh! Sometimes I’m like that! I always root fit the either guy. nit the lobe interest. That’s why I’m always left broken hearted most of the time
I haven’t tried any Mead series, just this one. But maybe I will.. someday. HAHA! I tried Bloodlines too. I didn’t even made it to the middle part. It’s just not working for me. Thanks Mariya!
OH MY GOSH! IT’S PAULA! Ha!
I really need to read this series! I’ve heard so many fabulous things about it, and I really want to experience it for myself; but for some reason I always get a little intimidated. The romance and emphasis on friendship here sounds like two things I’d love too! Thanks for sharing Paula and, as always, BRILLIANT review! <3

YEP. IT IS ME AGAIN!!! HAHAHA!
Try it Zoe! You might like it! I know I’m not a big fan of Lissa but she’s an awesome best friend. And trust me, you’ll love Dimitri
If not, there’s Christian. He’s mine though
Thank you Zoe!!!
Thanks for your review of one of my favorite series! I just have to say though, do NOT hesitate to read Bloodlines. I think I liked it even more than Vampire Academy. Without giving anything away, the Sydney you met in VA is not exactly the one in Bloodlines. There is a lot of reasons she acted the way she did, and why she behaves that way. She became one of my favorite characters. Just don’t let the Sydney you read about in VA stop you from this series.
You’re welcome Jeannie! Haha, okay then. I might try it again.. somed ay!
Its kind if painful to read Adrian with anyone. Hahaha! I really rooted him for Rose! I love Dimitri but goshhh, what Rose did. Poor Adrian
I adore Richelle Mead. I loved the Vampire Academy series (and Rose and Dimitri). I was so bummed the movie was so bad. Mead’s Georgina Kincaid series is SO FREAKING GOOD!

Oh yeah, I’ve heard good things about that one! So maybe that’s what I’ll read next from her. Thanks Megan!!
YAY I am so glad you have completed the series, it is one of my favourite YA series! I totally ship Rose and Dimitri and it was definitely filled with a lot of feels. I felt the same about Sydney too, but if you like Adrian I would definitely recommend giving it a go. She’s a bit stiff in the first 2 books but it really heats up midway. Great review!

I know! I’ve read this series so fast! Thanks Jeann! Okay so because there’s lots of you liking Bloodlines, maybe I’d give it a go!
I actually liked this series a lot because it was addictive and fun. Somehow it just hooked me in but I wouldn’t say it’s the most AUH-MAZING urban fantasy series I’ve ever read and yet, I still thought it was awesome!
I kind of feel the same way, Cristina! It’s just so readable and yeah.. its so addictive
The Vampire Academy series is one of my all time favorite YA series. I loved it so much more than Twilight (and I’m a huge huge Twilight fan). I actually just finished the Bloodlines series & I did hear mixed reviews on it. Personally, I loved it. I wasn’t a big fan of Syndey in the VA series & I wasn’t loving her Bloodlines but, as the series goes on, Sydney evoles & becomes more like able. Plus, you get a whole lot of Adrian. You also get the characters from VA popping up along the way.
If ever I‘ll read Bloodlines, I think the reason will be Adrian. HAHA! But let’s see.. maybe Sydney will surprise me and I’ll like her more than I thought I would. THANK YOU!
I adore this series, book 3 freaking hurt! The worst part was waiting a year for the next book. It’s hard not to hate you a little for not having to wait for the next books to come out
And Sydney gets so much better, but Adrian makes it so much worth it!
And, my favorie series ever is Richelle Mead’s adult Georgina Kincaid series. I loooove that series. Have read it over and over and over!
BTW, I finally found a way to follow you through Bloglovin so now I won’t forget to check your blog

Glad to hear this series is worth it! I haven’t read any of this series or anything by Richelle Mead. I got a little burnt out on the whole vampire thing, but I’ve seen this series around a lot. Your review has me curious, so I may check this out soon! Thanks for sharing!
