From goodreads: Liam Swift is a young man Amy has always admired from afar. She’s seen his face a thousand times; on the screen and in magazines. He seems unstoppable as his talent and beauty send him hurtling toward becoming a Hollywood legend…
Until one day – in what appears to be a fit of madness – he stuns the world by throwing it all away. Not even the most persistent reporter can fathom the reason behind Liam’s decision.
Never in Amy’s wildest dreams could she have imagined this God of acting would go on to accept employment at her local boarding school. Or that he’d personally start teaching her drama lessons.
It seems life can’t get much better for Amy… until the sound of tortured weeping starts echoing through the thin walls of her dorm room each night, leading her to stumble upon a horrifying secret Liam had hoped to keep hidden forever.
Before everyone starts throwing rotten tomatoes at me because I will be sharing possibly unpopular thoughts, let me clarify the meaning behind 3 stars. 3 stars is NOT a bad rating by any means. It simply means there were a few concerns that I had with the story but I was engaged enough to keep reading. Issues could be anything from plot, to character development, pace, etc. With that being said, 3 star reviews are often time the most difficult review for me to write because it seems that I am pointing out all the concerns, however, sometimes there are more minuses than pluses BUT that doesn’t mean I wasn’t engaged or that I didn’t enjoy it.
Now for my quickie review…
Beautiful Monster was an enjoyable read for me because it was different and that’s all I ever ask for in a book. Bravo to Bella Forrest for taking stories about Vampires to a completely different level because it’s definitely unique and so refreshing!
The premise of the story is really powerful because Amy’s blood is not enticing to Liam at all and I won’t go into any detail as to why because it will ruin the twist for any potential readers. I was hoping that topic of her blood would be explored in greater detail but it wasn’t and Amy became a one-dimensional character for me. The plot in general seemed to be lacking something, it needed more complexity and depth but it was still interesting enough to keep reading.
Liam, hello Mr. Hollywood and Mr. Headmaster!!! His attraction to Amy, the scholarship winner was immediate. Like first glance immediate…I’m not kidding, they saw each other and they were attracted to each other. Even though it’s fiction, make me believe it. I’m all about attraction but the attraction needs to be wined and dined…the insta-love never works for me. As the story progresses we are given insight to who Liam is and while it’s only a glimpse it helps us understand how he was turned. Truthfully I wanted more because like Amy, he felt a bit one-dimensional as well.
I gave this book 3 stars for the mere fact that it was a unique story; it was good and worth reading even though I had some overall concerns. If you are searching for a Vampire story that’s different, you might want to check this one out…like I always say, this could be your next favorite book! ;)
