On Every Street (The Artists Trilogy, #0.5) by Karina Halle (review + giveaway)

On Every Street (The Artists Trilogy, #0.5)

From goodreads: When young con artist Ellie Watt decides to call herself Eden White and go after the drug lord who ruined her as a child, she never expects to fall for one of his henchmen. But Javier Bernal is no ordinary man. Subtly dangerous and overwhelmingly seductive, Eden finds herself passionately in love with Javier, the very person she’s set-up to betray. With her body and heart in a heated battle against her deep need for revenge, no one will walk away from this con a winner.

This 50K word (100+ pages) novella takes place six years before Sins & Needles. It can be read before or after Sins & Needles and may also be read as a standalone.

On Every Street is BRILLIANT.  It’s a fantastic story that’s so unique and incredibly different that it’ll make your head spin!  It’s edgy, dark and it will mess with your head. Truthfully, I couldn’t get enough of these characters and their dark journey.

“I’m scared of him. I’m disgusted by the vile monster he becomes, this beast he lets out. But I still love him. I’d still do anything for him. I can’t just turn off my heart. I want to, I do, but I can’t. I love him with everything I have and I hate myself for it. Because it’s wrong to love him, I know. It’s so wrong.”

I thought I would hate Javier in this novella and I was prepared to despise him until the very end.  But that didn’t happen because his redeeming qualities (and there weren’t many) were sprinkled throughout the story.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t love him and I don’t think he’s meant to be with Ellie but I don’t hate him like I thought I would.

This is the story of two deeply flawed people who fall in love despite how unhealthy their relationship is and they are in it for the wrong reasons.  And if you think you will find your happily ever after in this story, think again.  Ellie is a con-artist and Javier is in the drug cartel business.  Think Pulp Fiction meets Pablo Escobar, El Patron del Mal!  And don’t forget to add some steamy romance to that.

“I do what I have to do to survive because that’s all I know. I don’t make excuses, I own it. This is me, this is who I am, this is my life. It shames me but not enough to stop.”

Karina Halle has the ability to take these complex characters that are beyond flawed and makes them likeable or better yet, loveable.  This story is perfect from start to finish and the pace matches the plot.  Can you tell I loved this story??

My words truly do not do this book justice.  This is the kind of story that stays with you, the characters take up space in your mind and every so often, you find yourself thinking about them and what they’ve endured.

And now I wait not so patiently for…Shooting Scars!
