Forever My Girl (The Beaumont #1) by Heidi McLaughlin

Forever My Girl (The Beaumont, #1)

From goodreads: I was never supposed to be a rock star. I had my life all planned out for me. Play football in college. Go to the NFL. Marry my high school sweetheart and live happily ever after.

I broke both our hearts that day when I told her I was leaving. I was young. I made the right decision for me, but the wrong decision for us. I’ve poured my soul into my music, but I’ve never forgotten her. Her smell, her smile.

And now I’m going back.

After ten years.

I hope I can explain that after all this time.

I still want her to be my forever girl.

I absolutely love this book and all the characters (even though Josie needed a good smack now-and-again!).  There wasn’t one that I didn’t like…that’s right, I even loved the ones I hated and that includes Sam!

Forever My Girl is light and fun and having read some heavy books this was a perfect story for me to dive into.  What’s not to like about Josie and Liam??  Was it a predictable story, yes but they were so likeable that I didn’t care one bit!!!  Sometimes, you just need a pinch of angst and a ton of chemistry and the rest takes care of itself. The story is told in an alternating POV and sometimes that can be distracting but this was a seamless transition each time.

While the Forever My Girl is predictable, the writing is fluid and the pace is almost perfect.  I did think the tail end of the book wrapped-up a little too quickly for my taste and I wanted more of the back-story to Liam’s parents and why they were awful.  Over-all the pace is great and the writing I thought was simply fantastic!

Liam is the sexy musician who left town without looking back and leaving his high school sweetheart devastated.  When he returns, all those same feelings are there and are those feelings ever-present!!!   Liam is the kind of character that breaks your heart because he’s a people pleaser and in trying to finally please himself…he has a knee-jerk reaction that will impact him forever.  Not only is it a knee jerk reaction but it’s definitely selfish but forgivable.

“Her tear-streaked face is beautiful. I want to wipe away her tears. I want to take the last ten years and erase them. I want to start over.”

My final two cents: I totally recommend this book because it’s a fun read and while there isn’t an element of surprise you will love every minute of Liam!  And I can’t wait to read the second book…don’t worry, you aren’t left on a cliff-hanger!  ;)
